FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How can I trust you by sending you an expensive watch to fix? I don¡¦t know you and you are so far away?

If you check on ebay we have a trading alias of milowatch and we have 100% positive feedback and we hope to keep this clean track of records. Also if you would like we can provide you with names on some of our customers that agree to act as our references. And best of all is to look at the amount of pictures that we have done as real proof.

How can you manage to provide such an extensive service on the restorations?

As you may probably appreciate the breadth of our service involves many skills, e.g. painting, lathing, gold casting, metal cutting etc. The way we work this out is that we have a workshop that has some core skill watchmakers who will handle the major restorations and then we have selected contracted craftsmen to handle those highly specialized work.

Why are you different from other watchmakers?

Because the owner Michael Young himself got into this business as a collector of fine Rolex watches, he understands what collectors want and many of our customers had services that even Rolex Service Centers cannot handle. The stereotypical watchmakers attitude is that I just need to get it running but they often overlook the all important aspect for the preservation of the looks. E.g. why put white luminous on a 50 year old watch dial?

You seem to cover all aspects of recreating a real watch, so what can you not do?

Tough question. If you are not in a really tight budget, technically everything except the movement may be recreated if original parts cannot be found, however for ethical and legal reasons we do not make replica watches. We are in the business of restorations and not replication.

What is the attitude on vintage watches and in particular Rolex and Tudor watches?

The popularity of the 2 brands are not by mistake nor hype. I have owned many vintage watches, but the only brand of watches that I feel comfortable in wearing as my daily watch is still a Rolex. I don¡¦t care if it is a Patek or some outlandishly expensive watch; Rolex is still my choice. It is built like a tank and runs perfectly if regularly serviced. However if your talking modern wristwatches. My take on this subject is that they are all rip offs. In the modern day of manufacturing , the aspect of precision manufacturing is not such a huge thing to achieve with modern day CNCs. Why should a Rolex be 10 times more than some others, my opinion is that it is pure branding.
